I did a video on a how to setup a dual monitor trading station a few weeks ago (http://www.guerillastocktrading.com/lessons/dual-multi-monitor-setup-for-stock-trading-computers-2/). Today, I hooked up a third monitor and I wanted to test some new technology.
Instead of hooking up the monitor to a traditional graphics card plugged in to the back of the computer by removing the case, like I showed you last week, I wanted to try an external graphics card via a USB port.
In this video, I’ll show you exactly what USB external graphics card you can buy and how to set it up. This is crazy easy! You just plug in this external video card into your USB 2.0 port, then you plug in your DVI or analog monitor with adapter into the other end, and WHAM… instant additional monitor!
The refresh rate on the USB monitor is about 50% of my high speed video graphics card. But even that reduced refresh rate was more than fast enough to handle my live streaming stock chart on SPY from Scottrade.
If your goal is to set up a trading station then a USB monitor will be fast enough. However, if you want to play video games with that monitor or stream HD video, then the USB monitor is too slow.
In my opinion, that’s a non-issue because you have your main monitor which is plugged into a graphics card so you can use that monitor for gaming or for streaming HD video.
