What is the difference between NYSE and NASDAQ securities?

Posted On : April 14th, 2012 | Updated On : April 22nd, 2012

What's the difference between securities listed on the NASDAQ versus those listed on the NYSE? There are some very small listing requirement differences but both have to have their SEC paperwork up to date and filed. Almost all companies listed on one could qualify for the other so it's not really about the quality of a company. The NYSE was created in 1792. The Nasdaq was created in 1971. Older companies are usually listed on the NYSE because the NASDAQ wasn't even around when they were looking for an exchange to list their company on when they first went public.
