Smart money is the capital that is being controlled by institutional investors, insider traders, and other financial professionals. Smart money usually has a better understanding of the market because of better, insider access to information that a regular retail investor can’t access. Smart money investors have massive research and analytical resources amateur traders don’t have. They are the professional investment fund managers who are responsible for billions of dollars of client money. They also move around so much money, they tend to influence the market. Smart money often tries to hide its trades on dark pools.
