Trailing Stop

A trailing stop is a type of order where the stop-loss price is not an absolute dollar amount but is instead a percentage or a certain dollar amount below the market price. A trailing stop is most often used in an uptrending market where the stop follows price higher. Traders use this type of order when they think a stock will continue to trend higher but want to protect themselves in the event of a sudden pullback.
