Ingevity Corporation manufactures and distributes specialty chemicals and activated carbon products throughout North America, Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and South America. Performance Materials and Performance Chemicals are the company’s two business segments. The Performance Materials segment develops, manufactures and markets hardwood-based chemically activated carbon products for use in automotive, motorcycle, truck and marine fuel systems. For use in a variety of applications, including food, water, beverage and chemical purification, this segment also produces other activated carbon products. Paving technology, industrial specialties and engineering polymers are part of the Performance Chemicals segment. It produces products from crude oil, lignin and caprolactone monomers and derivatives from cyclohexanone and hydrogen peroxide, as well as products from lignin and crude oil extracted from sulfate pulp. Products in this market segment are used in a wide range of industries, including hard pavement mixes, pavement preservation, rehabilitation and recycling, oil well maintenance additives, oil production and downstream applications such as adhesives, agrochemical dispersants, lubricants, printing inks, industrial intermediates, coatings, resins, elastomers, bioplastics and medical devices.
The company’s position in the paving construction sector is strengthened by the acquisition of Ozark Materials, and it is now better able to meet the needs of its clients. Thermoplastic pavement markings, waterborne traffic paints, and preformed thermoplastics are some of the pavement marking products that are produced by industry leader Ozark Materials.
In addition to establishing the company’s presence in the electric vehicle (EV) market, its $60 million investment in Nexeon Limited also presents opportunities for the company to grow its activated carbon business. Ingevity’s activated carbon will be used in EV technology being developed in conjunction with this investment to enhance lithium-ion battery performance.
